And the Oscar Goes to…

by Magnus Maximus

side_oscarThis awards season the Republican Party has gotten some recognition: Awards like Best Failed Attempt to Develop a Message and Most Confusing Party Brand are already on Reince Priebus’ mantle. He has another trophy to add: Silence on Winning Issues.

There are few topics discussed coast to coast right now in living rooms, bars and family gatherings as “gun control.” Yet the Republican party has yet to put out a coherent effective counter message to the democrats “gun control” mantra.

Pat Brady, Reince Priebus, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist – we don’t need to do polling or focus groups on this one. Our Party’s counter message is simple:

DEMOCRATS WANT TO TAKE AWAY YOUR GUNS.

It worked for the Democrats with Social Security and Abortion last fall. It should work for Republicans right now. Yet we do not hear a single elected official or party official utter these words when they find themselves on TV.

The narrative is so simple former Senate Candidate Richard Murdock could even stay on message: The Democrats want to take away your constitutional right to guns. It’s not about crime, it’s not about safety, it’s not about Sandy Hooke – it’s about Democrats wanting to take away guns. This is an assault on our constitution. But the Republican Party remains silent.

The only thing that would make Republicans worse is if we had a high ranking Democrat official insert his foot in his mouth on this issue.

AND THE AWARD FOR BEST MISSED OPPORTUNITY GOES TO….THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. Reince make another speech about figuring out how to grow the party.

You may not have caught Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy state that firearm owners who lobby their elected representatives or who donate money to political campaigns are engaged in corruption that endangers public safety or that McCarthy believes that judges and legislators should rely on public opinion polls when interpreting our Constitution because no high ranking Republican officials are calling him out on it.

Right now a slew of elected officials could be calling out how gun bans are working for violence in Chicago or ask McCarthy if he uses public opinion when using the 4th Amendment. Especially some of the standard searches they use when Cops stop someone for a traffic violation.
