I went to the District 34 Glenview school board meeting last night with Glenn Farkas. We both spoke during the public comment along with two other supporters. We were all cut off at 3 min per their rules. Glenn may make news as he called for the “resignation” of the two current board members involved the flap. I waved huge paperclips during my public comment in support of Glenn. In addition, I mentioned my usual school board issues including high property taxes, school district consolidation, and pensions.
In my opinion, to start to fix the mess, all new employees starting today should be IRA’s and 401Ks basically eliminating government run and funded (I don’t know if they were ever funded), systems. Government cannot promise these pensions to burden future tax payers.
We spoke but the board was not very cooperative. I was disappointed that the meetings are not taped or broadcast on youtube or cable tv. These boards seem to operate without much contact with the public. I wish more folks would come out to see these meetings. I appreciate Champion News and the WIND Radio Show shines the light on school boards.
We are trying to keep the paperclip story in the news, it is symbolic of Illinois dirty politics.
