Today the Governor outlined where he believes Illinois stands and his vision moving forward. There are few opportunities such as this where our State’s leader has the undivided attention of the Legislature and the people of Illinois, and I believe we were all hoping that he would take this opportunity to refocus our State’s efforts on the issues that matter most.
There can be no higher priority set on growing our economy and reducing our debt while protecting the State’s most vulnerable. I would like nothing more than to work alongside the Governor towards these goals; however, his lack of focus on these issues was quite startling.
Launching divisive social crusades at a time when our state is accruing $12.6 million in new debt each and ever day is not only counterproductive, it shows a stunning lack of leadership. Our problems are too large to ignore, and the solution to our entire fiscal situation rests on pension reform.
