The Sun-Times discusses the WBEZ interview where Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka said the following when asked about the youth vote (H/T: Illinois Review):
“No,” Topinka shot back. “They don’t vote because very often they’re lazy, and they’re too busy playing with their little machines . . . They’re just too in tune with texting and not in tune with what’s going on around them.”
Topinka is another out of touch politician who has been in office for way too long. There are ways to reach out to the youth vote, but blaming them is not going to get the job done. Some groups already reaching out to the youth are:
