Julie Morrison’s Rezko Connection

Written by the IL GOP

Why is Democrat State Senate Candidate Julie Morrison taking money from a powerful former tobacco lobbyist who has been tied to convicted Democratic fundraiser and Blagojevich kickback king Tony Rezko?

Public records on the Illinois Board of Elections website indicate that Morrison received $1,000 in 2012 from Strategic Government Solutions, Inc of Northbrook. SGS Founder and President Anthony “Tony” Abboud appointment to the Teachers Retirement System Board was orchestrated by Tony Rezko. In Rezko’s Pre-Trial Evidentiary Proffer, Abboud was identified as Individual “Q.”

“Mrs. Morrison has been trying to sell herself as an independent voice when in reality she is just another pawn of the Chicago Democrat Machine that devastated our state,” Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady said. “Her campaign is funded by the same unions and trial lawyers that worked with Mike Madigan to bankrupt our state. And now we learn that Mrs. Morrison is also funded by the voice of big tobacco and allies of Blagojevich and Rezko.”

Elected officials such as Gov. Quinn know that Abboud is a shady character. During his 2010 primary campaign, Quinn canceled a fundraiser that was originally scheduled at his home.

“A look at Mrs. Morrison’s record as West Deerfield Township Supervisor reveals a career politician that gave herself pay raises, overspent her budget the past two fiscal years and supervised obscene administrative costs compared to public services,” Brady said. “Now we learn that she is supported by the same people who made Illinois a late night joke. Mrs. Morrison is everything we don’t need more of in Springfield.”
