Mitt Romney today announced Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as his choice for VP. This selection will certainly excite many conservatives who have been wavering in their support of Romney.
Paul Ryan, as Chairman of the House Budget Committee, has been the face of the opposition to President Obama’s re-distributive free spending polices. Ryan is intelligent and can delve into the details of the budget where many just talk in sound bites. Ryan can have the adult conversation about substantive change instead of only soundbites. Below is a sampling of Ryan at work:

In addition to helping Romney in the battleground state of WI, the choice is expected to help him with the all important female vote. It should also help with the Religious vote with Ryan being Catholic. The video below show Ryan explaining how his Catholic Faith influenced his budget. Watch the full interview here.
“By not having big government crowd out civic society, but by having enough space in our communities so that we can interact with each other, and take care of people who are down and out in our communities. Those principles are very very important, and the preferential option for the poor, which is one of the primary tenets of Catholic social teaching, means don’t keep people poor, don’t make people dependent on government so that they stay stuck at their station in life. Help people get out of poverty out into a life of independence.”
Paul Ryan is very articulate on the how the Romney/Ryan beliefs are clearly different than that of President Obama and the Democratic Party where he explains what is wrong with the Welfare State:
We risk hitting tipping point in our society where we have more takers than makers in society. Where we will have turned our safety net into a hammock. That lulls able-bodied people into lives of dependency and complacency. Which drains them of their will and incentive to make the most of their lives.
President Obama’s policies are feverishly putting more people into the column of being takers that makers…being more dependent.
His policy two weeks ago of trying to waive the work requirements for welfare, his policies of increasing welfare dependency without transitioning people back to work are part and parcel of a plan that creates a permanent class of government dependence among able-bodied citizens.
That is not the American idea. That’s a welfare state.
It might make everyone more equal, which i think the President believes the goal of government is to equalize outcomes versus equalize opportunity, but we’ll all be more equally miserable under these kids of policies.
